Implementation of School Sanitation and Hygiene Education (SSHE) WASH in Schools

Funded by UNICEF-Sierra Leone

Target Beneficiaries:  2,334 Pupils (1,270 boys and 1,064 girls) and teachers in 10 targeted schools

Project Location:  Sanda Loko Chiefdom, Bombali district.

Project Duration: 15 months

Project Outcomes:

  • Functional water supply schemes provided potable water to 2,334 pupils in 10 targeted schools throughout the school year at a minimum rate of 5litres/pupil/day.
  • Improved sanitation facilities, equipped with functional hand washing facilities for the pupils in the targeted schools.
  • Child friendly WASH facilities installed in the targeted schools, operated and maintained by School Management Committees (SMCs) and school authorities.
  • 30 catchment communities of the targeted schools attained and maintained total sanitation by sustaining Open Defecation Free status.
